Sculpting with felt and straw is one of Maor's favorite ways to create hats.
As an artist it allows him to create sculptural renditions of every day objects he comes across. First he researches his inspiration, breaking down the components and assembling them using with different kinds of straw and felt of a variety of weights. Then he tends to the small details by painting, burning, scorching, adding embroidery and beads.
Whether you are a hat maker and want to experience working with felt and straw or you're an artist or costume designer who enjoys creating three dimensional object and would like to learn amazing new techniques, this workshop is for you.
In this class we will learn how to manipulate these materials by stretching, stiffening, molding, folding and more. We will explore different coloring techniques and even experience dry and wet felting.
